Biodiversity Action Plans The Convention of Biological Diversity was held in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. The treaty was signed by many countries including Britain and served to provide a legal framework for biodiversity conservation, by creation and enforcement of national strategies and action plans to conserve, protect and enhance biological diversity. Biodiversity in the UK For more details of the UK BAP see the UK Biodiversity website at www.ukbap.org.uk. The link on the left will give you a list of UK BAP species and habitats relevant to Yorkshire. Local Biodiversity Action Plans (LBAPs) In addition to the national BAPs, action was also to be taken at a local level. For each county, and sometimes at district level, a number of action plans have been or are to be produced. Some of the species and habitats included are those from the UK BAP, others are not on the UK BAP but have local importance.
